I have long admired and enjoyed Alain de Botton’s work since reading Essays in Love 20+ years ago, My only quibble is that some of his books, characterized on his website as “essayistic books that have been described as a ‘philosophy of everyday life,” are given titles that tend toward the clickbait-esque: Kiss and Tell , How Proust Can Change Your Life, How to Think More about Sex … promising 17% more than they deliver. And that’s the case here. Happily, 83% of the promise implicit in Why You Will Marry the Wrong Person still equates to worthwhile viewing.
