Heck Of A Landing Zone
Hot air balloons are relatively frequent, cheer-inducing visitors in this part of McHenry County, Illinois. While they are typically aloft – and often a tad aloof – this one arrived early one Spring morning a few years ago, preceded by an exceedingly polite ground crew asking permission to use the our front lawn as a landing site.
A hot air balloon landing, admittedly, falls short of a momentous occasion. One can, after all, safely assume that for every balloon launch there is one balloon landing.
Nonetheless, this visit generated an enjoyable break in that morning’s routine, and its memory still triggers a smile and evokes my recall of that year’s particularly luscious Spring.
