The Most Poignant Good-Bye Song: Keep Me In Your Heart by Warren Zevon

Of all the pop songs dealing with death and loss, this is – for me – the most poignant.

Warren Zevon wrote and performed “Keep Me In Your Heart” after he was diagnosed with inoperable mesothelioma. It was the final song Zevon recorded before dying in September 2003. Zevon’s poor health precluded commuting to the studio so this song was recorded in a makeshift studio set up at his home.
