It’s worth recalling that Leonard Cohen’s 2008 Tour began well before that year’s Hallelujah Hullabaloo initiated by the ascension of Alexandra Burke’s cover of Hallelujah into the highly valued and highly profitable Christmas No 1 position in Britain (a climb based in large part on the publicity generated by Ms Burke’s appearance on X-Factor) with Jeff Buckley’s and Leonard’s own versions vying for the #2 and #3 positions.1 Shot by Lian Lunson, director of the Leonard Cohen – I’m Your Man documentary, this black and white video of Leonard Cohen’s performance at Halifax early in the 2008 Tour2 was one of the first professionally shot recordings made available on mass media (this video aired Nov 9, 2008 on CBC).
Thanks are due to Lian Lunson, who provided information about the actual origins of this video.
