It’s not a surprise to those who have followed Leonard Cohen’s video interviews that the significance of a given interview has only a minimal correlation to its popularity — but this is ridiculous.
This video has only garnered 546 views since being posted May 27, 2016, yet it offers Leonard’s considerations on some of the core issues of his creative, spiritual, and personal life. I think the reasons for the lack of interest are (1) the visual quality is substandard, (2) the audio volume is very low, and (3) the level of entertainment doesn’t reach the Leonard Cohen Gives Good Interview level I have so often promoted. The key word in the title, in fact, is “agonizing.” There are few jokes, no seduction of the interviewer, none of the fun stuff. But, if you want to know what Leonard Cohen was thinking about the most basic issues, this video is for you.
