I Can’t Forget – The Leonard Cohen Timeline Is Online Again

The Life, Writing, and Music Of Leonard Cohen

In 2011, Sally Hunter, Ruth Stimson, and Roman Gavrilin, with a modicum of assistance from DrHGuy,1 constructed an outstanding Leonard Cohen timeline that provided not only a useful perspective on the milestones of Leonard Cohen’s career but also a rich experience of the Canadian singer-songwriter’s – well, his singing and songwriting, as well as his poetry and prose. Since then, various cataclysmic events, including the demise of the company hosting the timeline and closings of two of  my Leonard Cohen sites resulted in the loss of this feature — until now.  I Can’t Forget – The Leonard Cohen Timeline is online again.

The Timeline

Each of the events is marked by a graphic (e.g., each album release date bears the image of the album cover); most also include either a video or audio recording (e.g., each album release event includes an audio recording of one of the songs on that album). The recording, whether audio or video is found by clicking on the image and then on “Video.” Concerts and Tour Start Dates typically feature a pertinent video performance

In the example below, clicking on “Can’t Forget Release” displays the content of the album, its cover art, and the video of a representative track, Field Commander Cohen.

I am republishing selected posts from my former Leonard Cohen site, Cohencentric, here on AllanShowalter.com (these posts can be found at Leonard Cohen). This earliest version of this entry was posted Aug 18, 2011 at 1HeckOfAGuy.com, a predecessor of Cohencentric.

  1. DrHGuy pulled off an inadvertent version of the Tom Sawyer fence-painting ploy by suggesting the Leonard Cohen timeline project, recruiting the aforementioned Cohen experts, and then devoting himself to being betrothed and undergoing healthcare procedures sufficient to enable the medical professionals of Durham NC to pay their kids’ fall semester private school tuition and next month’s payment on the boat, leaving the vast majority of the labors to his colleagues.
