“I was fed with the bread of freedom” Leonard Cohen Performs Unique Version Of Born In Chains, Featuring Sharon Robinson & Webb Sisters – Florence 2010

I was fed with the bread of freedom in its choosing
But I rebelled there and I knelt before the idols in my shame
But in the midst of all this wild confusion
I heard it spoken: Blessed is the name

The lyrics and stage presentations of Born In Chains underwent a number of changes after its first formal live performance in Salzburg (2010).1 Leonard’s opening lines at the 2010 Florence show (shown above) are unique to that concert.

  1. Note: Leonard can be heard mumbling a fragment of Born In Chains in “Leonard Cohen: I’m Your Man,” the 2005 documentary written and directed by Lian Lunson. []
