“I was pleasantly surprised and sort of moved by it” PS22 Chorus Covers Hallelujah By Leonard Cohen

I confess that my reflex response when Linda Sturgess alerted me to this video of an elementary school chorus covering Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah was, to put it charitably, “this is a bad fit.” But, as Linda wrote about her own reaction to the video,

I was pleasantly surprised and sort of moved by it. A lovely video of PS22 Chorus singing Leonard’s Hallelujah. The kids seem really involved in not just the music – but the lyrics as well – however they perceive them.

And, once again, Linda is right.

It turns out that Linda and I are not the only ones favorably (and surprisingly) impressed. The Facebook video has garnered 3,160,676 views and the YouTube video has 484,794 more [at time of original posting: Mar 15, 2016].

Update: Today (20 January 2022) the Facebook version claims 6.6M views, and the YouTube video has had 3,586,145 views.
