If his current rate of improvement continues, Samuel (aka Prodigal), my oldest son who was hospitalized, unconscious and on a ventilator, following an auto accident 10 days ago, will be transferred to a rehabilitation facility as early as tomorrow (14 February 2007) and probably no later than the end of this week. Yesterday, he was able to eat solid food for the first time since the accident. He was also able to walk, with assistance, in the halls.
Problems persist, especially with his mental status. He remains, for example, confused and also has problems with articulation. While the potential for things to go wrong still exists, I am, nonetheless, finding it difficult to list enough legitimate negative factors to justify my level of worry.
I am deeply and sincerely grateful for the many emails, calls, and messages of support from folks I know well, from others I’ve known only through this blog, and from still others who had never contacted me prior to this event.
Thank you.
